About the Artist
I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.
John Burroughs
A native of California, Sara attended the College of San Mateo and California State University Chico, where she studied art with an emphasis in drawing and printmaking. During her college years, Sara was privileged to work in the studio of Alexander Nepote, a noted California painter and instructor whose work was a major influence on her developing style. Travel took Sara to various regions of the west and she settled for several years in the mountains of Colorado where she began working with watercolors. It was during this time that Sara's imagery became directly influenced by her deep emotional connection with the natural world. Sara now lives with her family in beautiful south central Wisconsin. Here she has a daily connection with art and place---the exquisite terrain of the Baraboo Bluffs continually feeds Sara's artistry.
Sara's paintings take a closer look at the natural world and reveal the things she knows about these intricate places. She is determined to give the viewer an in-depth look at the mystery she finds in the places she goes. Sara uses a variety of media: watercolor, oil, handmade papers and acrylic medium. The result is a painting rich in the drama of contrasting light and saturated color. The desire is always to connect the viewer more deeply and emotionally to the mystery she finds in nature.
