..A native of
California. I attended the College of San Mateo and California
state University, Chico, where I studied art with an emphasis in
drawing and printmaking. During my college years, I was privileged
to work in the studio of Alexander Nepote, a California artist and
instructor whose work was a major influence on my developing
style. Travel took me to many regions of the west. I settled for
several years in Colorado where I began working with watercolors
and studied briefly at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I
now reside in beautiful central Wisconsin with my husband and
three children. Here, family life and painting consume my time.
...Working essentially in watercolor, I paint in a style of
enlarged realism. I am drawn to the natural world for inspiration
and find an endless source of subject matter there- from plant
life to rugged terrain- bodies of water to layers on the forest
floor- bold rock formations to the most delicate flower-a still
life composed of the garden's bounty. I attempt to capture the
mysteries of nature and reveal its beauty. The aspects of light
and shadow, the drama of contrast, and lush, saturated color
characterize my work. I apply layers of transparent glazes which
build a surface rich in color. The surface becomes saturated,
intense and occasionally overstated. I also incorporate other
media into my paintings-handmade papers and acrylic medium. The
result is a painting rich in texture and color and revealing the
mysteries found when taking a closer look at the intricacies of
the natural world.
